Flask body material and design

Most cell culture flasks are made of highly transparent and high-strength polystyrene (PS), which tends to be highly transparent and allows direct observation of cell growth under a microscope.

Surface Treatment

For culturing adherent cells, manufacturer will do tissue culture treatment on surface of cell culture flask which makes flask wall more hydrophilic, promotes adhesion to a wide range of adherent cell types, and ensures optimal performance. For culturing suspension cells, user can choose a non-TC surface treatment flask which is highly hydrophobic and allows the cells to be suspended freely in the medium to avoid attachment. We need to correctly select the appropriate TC or non-TC treated flask for the type of cells to be cultured.

Capacity specifications

Flasks are named by surface area, e.g. T25, T75, T175, with the number representing the bottom area of the flask.

T25 is 25 cm2, and the recommended medium amount is 5-7 mL, which is suitable for small-scale cell passage and initial culture.

T75 is 75 cm2 and the recommended medium volume is 15-20 mL, which is suitable for medium-scale cell proliferation and routine experiments.

T175 is 175cm2, the recommended medium amount is 30-50mL, and it is often used for large-scale cell expansion, with a large culture area, and more cells can be cultured in a single bottle.

These flasks are suitable for different scale experiments, and to choose the right flask size depends on experiment requirements, cell types and Proliferation status.

Cap Design

There are two types of caps to choose: filter cap with one filter on the cap to exchange gas which avoids cross contamination, suitable for long-term culture and experiments that require gas exchange.

Another type is plug sealed cap without filter which can completely seal the culture flask to prevent the entry of external gases, and is suitable for sealing the cultured cells or short-term transport and other experimental processes.

Depending on the purpose of the experiment and the different culture conditions, select appropriate cap design to ensure that the experiment goes smoothly and achieves the best results.
